1. God created humans to enjoy a world with NO
PAIN, sickness, death, crime, loneliness or broken
relationships. He ENTRUSTED that earth to the
management of early humans.
God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and
increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over
the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every
living creature that moves on the ground.”Then God said, “I
give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole
earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will
be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all
the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the
ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give
every green plant for food.” And it was so.
2. Because He is loving, God gave early humans the choice
to have it God’s way, or not. There is no LOVE without
The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden
of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the Lord God
commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree
in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the
knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will

You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the
woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes
will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and
evil.” When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was
good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable
for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave
some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
To Adam [God] said…
“Cursed is the ground because of you;
through painful toil you will eat food from it
all the days of your life.
It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
and you will eat the plants of the field.
By the sweat of your brow
you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
and to dust you will return.
Take Away 1: We are born into an infected creation —
created perfect but ruined by sin. This CHANGES our
Take Away 2: We often blame God for pain and suffering
brought onto us by the CHOICES of ourselves or others.
Where does your pain come from? Trace it back far enough,
and your pain is rooted in this ORIGINAL infection.
The Next Natural Question:
If God is good, is He going to fix our pain and
When God saw humanity trapped in the rubble of sin
He STEP DOWN into the brokenness, to
CREATE a way of ESCAPE.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only
Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have
eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to
condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
God’s Twofold rescue plan:
1. SUSTAINING STRENGTH within the
rubble, as we await final rescue. (next week’s message)
2. Complete RESCUEOUTof the rubble of sin,
available through Christ.
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we
were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No
one comes to the Father except through me.”
How to Step into the Rescue Capsule:
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe
in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be
saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are
justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith
and are saved.

1. What pain, struggle, sickness or difficulty are you
dealing with in your life presently?
2. We learned from Genesis 1-3 about the root of all pain
and death in our world. Was this story new to you?
3. Take a moment to read the Scriptures listed after
the question: If God is good, is He going to fix our
pain and brokenness? Jesus describes faith in
Him as the only way out of the brokenness of this
collapsed world. Have you told God that you believe
in Jesus and want to trust Him to rescue you?
